The GST portal at gst.gov.in is the single online hub for all your GST compliance — registration, return filing, tax payments, refunds and notices. This short guide explains how to log in to the government GST portal and what you can do once you are inside.
About the GST portalThe GST portal operates at https://www.gst.gov.in and functions as the central platform for GST compliance in India. Registered taxpayers use it to manage their registration, file returns, make tax payments, claim refunds, and respond to departmental notices.
Before you log in: getting your GSTINTo log in you first need to be registered. Visit gst.gov.in, submit a GST registration application with the required documents, and once the GST officer verifies and approves it, you receive a unique GST Identification Number (GSTIN) along with login credentials.
How to log in to the GST portalStep 1: Go to https://www.gst.gov.in and click Login in the top-right corner.
Step 2: Enter your username, password and the captcha shown on screen, then click LOGIN.
Step 3: After successful authentication, your dashboard opens — showing your GST credit summary, tax liabilities, notices received, and your return-filing options.
First-time loginIf you are logging in for the first time with the provisional/temporary credentials issued at registration, the portal will prompt you to create your own username and password.
